How Will Vietnam SuperPort Transform Regional Logistics Infrastructure?

On January 7, Vietnam SuperPort™ signed critical agreements with the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam, China Railway, and China Railway 16th Bureau Group Vietnam Co., Ltd., marking a significant step towards improving logistics and trade in the region. This collaboration aims to advance Vietnam’s logistics industry, promote international cooperation, and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

Advancing Vietnam’s Logistics Industry

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Transport Development and Strategy Institute outlines a comprehensive strategy to implement a national railway network that optimizes the transportation of goods to and from Vietnam SuperPort™. Part of the plan includes developing new railway lines and terminals to position Vietnam SuperPort™ as a major transshipment hub along the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Haiphong – Quang Ninh railway line. This initiative is expected to revolutionize the nation’s logistics capabilities and elevate Vietnam’s stature in the global supply chain.

Collaboration with China Railway 16th Bureau Group

Another significant agreement was signed with China Railway 16th Bureau Group Vietnam Co., Ltd., focusing on constructing a rail cargo terminal and integrating the port with Vietnam’s national railway network. This initiative aims to bolster cross-border logistics by creating a seamless multimodal transportation system that includes road, air, sea, and rail. The ultimate goal is to enhance the overall efficiency and competitiveness of Vietnam’s logistics sector. This move aligns with Vietnam’s ambition to become a pivotal regional and global supply chain hub.

Key Figures and Strategic Vision

The signing event was attended by key figures such as Jaya Ratnam, Singapore’s Ambassador to Vietnam, and Robert Yap, Executive Chairman of YCH Group. Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPort™, highlighted the project’s significance in achieving the vision of a multi-modal logistics port spanning 83 hectares. This integrated approach is designed to bring together multiple modes of transportation to facilitate smoother and more efficient logistics operations.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Hien, Deputy Director of the Transport Development and Strategy Institute, expressed optimism about the collaboration aligning with Vietnam’s aim for sustainable transportation development. Vietnam SuperPort™ is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, in line with the Ministry of Transport’s roadmap for a sustainable and green transportation system. This focus on sustainability is a core component of the strategic partnership and further underscores Vietnam’s dedication to environmentally friendly economic growth.
