AD Ports Group and Pakistan Partner to Enhance Maritime Infrastructure

In a significant move to strengthen maritime transport infrastructure, the AD Ports Group, a major UAE port operator, has partnered with the Pakistani government through new memoranda of understanding (MOUs). These agreements aim to explore untapped opportunities within the maritime sector, particularly focusing on logistics, digital services, and customs infrastructure. The AD Ports Group has already established a formidable presence as a significant investor in Pakistan, directing efforts primarily at Karachi Port. The port plays a crucial role as a trade hub for Central Asia and Russia. As part of this partnership, ventures with UAE partner Kaheel Terminals are set to further develop and manage the port’s container, bulk, and general cargo operations.

One of the key themes of this collaboration involves the enhancement of Pakistan’s maritime fleet and marine services, aiming to boost efficiency and capacity at Karachi Port. The AD Ports Group has earmarked nearly $400 million for investment in the port over the next 15 years, reinforcing its commitment to developing maritime infrastructure. In addition, there are plans for further investments to augment the terminal’s handling capabilities, keeping in line with broader regional cooperation and infrastructure development trends. These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance trade logistics, benefiting both the UAE and Pakistan’s economic landscapes.

This partnership builds on previous successful collaborations between the AD Ports Group and Pakistan. Notable projects include the $220 million concession agreement in 2023 and a subsequent 25-year concession in 2024 aimed at enhancing terminal operations at Karachi Port. These agreements are part of a strategic initiative to transform and modernize Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure, solidifying its status as a vital trade gateway. The sustained and robust investment by the AD Ports Group not only highlights the strategic importance of this region but also underscores the commitment to fostering a strengthened economic partnership between the UAE and Pakistan.
