In a remarkable effort to assist during the Mulitaka landslip crisis, New Porgera Limited (NPL) has stepped up to provide crucial logistical and inventory support to the affected area. Ms. Karo Lelai, NPL’s Country Manager, highlighted the company’s significant role in this effort, acknowledging the financial and material contributions from Total Energies, ExxonMobil, and the MRDC. Ms. Lelai extended her appreciation to the Engan Provincial Government for their prompt response and recognized the backing from the National Government and other provincial authorities. The collaborative approach demonstrated by these entities underscores the importance of efficient logistics to manage disaster relief effectively.Ms. Lelai noted the logistical challenges faced during the relief efforts, pointing out that “There was too much out at Mulitaka,” suggesting an oversupply issue that complicated resource allocation. Alongside the substantial financial backing from Barrick and Zijin, who collectively contributed K3.8 million to the disaster relief, NPL’s efforts have been critical in addressing the crisis.
