XPO Logistics Expands Operations, Enhances Morocco-EU Trade

XPO Logistics has announced a major expansion in Morocco, aiming to enhance its North Africa operations with the deployment of 60 advanced container trailers and new shipping routes. This initiative is crucial, as it aims to cut CO2 emissions by 10%. Since 2018, XPO has tripled its revenue in the region and successfully executed over 30,000 cross-border shipments between Europe and Morocco. A key aspect of this expansion is the establishment of a dedicated logistics link between Morocco’s Port of Tangier and Spain’s Motril terminal, which now manages 35-40% of the Europe-Morocco traffic.

Morocco’s emergence as a critical manufacturing and trade hub has driven XPO to focus on providing more efficient logistics solutions, particularly for the automotive, retail, and construction sectors. By increasing transport capacity by 50%, the company hopes to reduce unnecessary trips and conserve fuel. Massimo Marsili, XPO’s Managing Director for Southern Europe and Morocco, underscored the commitment to innovative and sustainable logistics practices. Their operations across the Gibraltar Strait currently facilitate 400 monthly duo trailer crossings.

The Motril route plays a significant role in meeting Morocco’s sustainability objectives while supporting the company’s broader ambition to dominate high-growth trade routes. Utilizing technological advancements and eco-friendly practices, XPO is strategically positioning itself to tap into the expanding North Africa-Europe trade corridor.
