How Can Danone and Maersk’s Partnership Transform Logistics Ecology?

Danone has taken a significant step towards sustainability by partnering with Maersk through the ECO Delivery Ocean program, aiming to drastically reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from logistics. Maersk’s ECO Delivery Ocean utilizes alternative fuels such as biodiesel and biomethanol, which originate entirely from waste feedstocks. This approach is instrumental in cutting emissions by around 40% compared to traditional fossil fuels. Since 2017, Danone’s environmental objectives have aligned with the Science-Based Targets initiative, striving for net zero emissions by 2050.

Similarly, Maersk stands out as the first company in the shipping and logistics industry to have a net zero pathway approved by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with a target of achieving net zero by 2040. The partnership between Danone and Maersk extends beyond maritime transport; it also encompasses comprehensive inland transport solutions and specialized control towers to ensure efficient logistics operations. This collaboration serves as a prime example of a broader trend towards sustainability in logistics, underscoring the shared commitment of both companies to reducing their environmental footprint. By integrating sustainable practices into their logistics operations, Danone and Maersk are paving the way towards a more eco-friendly future in the global supply chain.
