Vietnam is experiencing rapid growth in cross-border e-commerce, and the joint venture between Singapore’s YCH Group and Vietnam’s T&T Group, known as Vietnam SuperPort, is set to revolutionize the sector. At the 2024 E-Commerce Connectivity and Development Forum, Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPort, discussed how the project’s multimodal logistics solutions, which incorporate technological advancements and sustainable practices, will significantly enhance regional supply chain connectivity.
The forum shed light on the immense potential and opportunities in cross-border e-commerce, but it also addressed challenges such as high logistics costs and limited infrastructure. In 2023, business-to-consumer transactions on e-commerce platforms in Vietnam amounted to approximately VND498.9 trillion ($19.6 billion). Platforms like Shopee, Lazada, Tiki, Sendo, and TikTok Shop saw a marked increase in revenue, demonstrating the sector’s burgeoning growth.
Experts emphasized the need for a transparent and secure logistics system to ensure seamless cross-border e-commerce and the importance of linking domestic and international supply hubs. With new regulations focusing on greening the supply chain, sustainable logistics solutions are increasingly essential from production to end-users.
Located in the Northern Economic Corridor, Vietnam SuperPort connects over 20 industrial parks along with major seaports and airports, extending its reach to China and ASEAN countries. By leveraging YCH Group’s vast logistics experience, the project employs a multimodal approach that integrates road, air, rail, and sea transportation to offer businesses flexible and cost-effective supply chain solutions.
In addition to its comprehensive logistics setup, Vietnam SuperPort is harnessing technological advancements to boost efficiency and sustainability. During the Innovate Vietnam 2024 event, the company introduced a digital transformation plan that incorporates AI technology, focusing on automation, warehouse robotics, and transport management. These technologies are designed to streamline operations, speed up order fulfillment, and improve inventory control, thereby enhancing overall logistics performance.
Furthermore, Vietnam SuperPort is creating an AI-powered logistics marketplace in partnership with global entities to connect small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), financial institutions, and logistics providers worldwide. This platform aims to ensure transparency, facilitate access to capital, and strengthen cargo capacities while supporting SME growth in Vietnam.
In its commitment to sustainability, Vietnam SuperPort aims to become Southeast Asia’s first net-zero logistics hub by 2040. This initiative involves developing a blockchain-based environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management system to monitor and manage carbon emissions.
Ultimately, Vietnam SuperPort is positioned to transform the logistics landscape in Vietnam and elevate cross-border e-commerce through innovative multimodal logistics solutions, cutting-edge technology, and a strong focus on sustainability. The project is set to establish new standards in logistics, support regional economic growth, and integrate Vietnam more deeply into the global supply chain.
